You know you can smell moisture on the air....? It’s almost indescribable but it’s pervasive. The scent of rain, of puddles on the ground, of dew dripping from golden leaves.
Autumn rain smells so different to Summer, it’s the first scent shift I notice as September arrives.
The gentleness of the smell that autumn rain carries is soothing. It brings with it an encouragement to go easy on ourselves. After the activity of Summer, Autumn invites us to begin to lay down all we carry and prepare for a slow, hunkered down few months.
So, while the world continues to charge, full speed ahead, I’m breathing in the sweet, earthy, musky scent of Autumn and its rain and trusting the season to set my pace.
